Appeal evidence about ownership, hire or use of the vehicle

The evidence you need will depend on what happened. Send any of the following that support your appeal:

  • a vehicle sale or purchase document

  • a DVLA acknowledgement or registration document

  • a hire or lease agreement

  • a company vehicle allocation record

  • a police crime reference for a stolen vehicle or cloned registration plate

  • evidence identifying the person who was using the vehicle

Make sure the evidence shows

  • the vehicle registration

  • the relevant person or organisation’s name and address

  • the date ownership, possession or use began and ended

  • the date and time covered by any hire or lease

  • signatures or other confirmation that the agreement was in force

What to tell us in your own words

  • your relationship to the vehicle

  • who owned, hired, leased or used it at the time

  • the full name and serviceable address of the relevant person or organisation, where applicable

  • why the sale, hire, lease or police document is not available

  • if you do not have supporting evidence, tell us why

  • anything else you want us to consider
